Chelsea have suffered a double injury Ricardo Carvalho is out for up to four weeks, while Deco will be missing for a fortnight.
Carvalho will face longer on the sidelines with UEFA Champions League group games against CFR Cluj next week and Roma on 22nd October being two matches he is set to miss. Deco is likely to sit out Chelsea's next four matches before an international break will give him extra recovery time.
Chelsea have had their share of injury problems already this season with Michael Ballack and Didier Drogba have recently just worked their way back into contention after suffering knocks.
Michael Essien however, is set to be out for up to six months after picking up a knee injury in pre-season.
Chelsea face Portsmouth at Fratton Park in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night.
